Though the great arranger and trombonist led only four sessions for Blue Note, between June 1957 and January 1958, he appeared on a handful of dates with The Jazz Messengers, and with many others as a sideman for Blue Note. This image was taken during the classic Coltrane session Blue Train, a watershed for the twenty-two year old from the legendary motor city.
