This image was captured during the 1964 avant-garde classic Out To Lunch, the only record date Eric Dolphy led for the Blue Note label. One of jazz music’s great and untimely losses, Eric Dolphy died in Berlin on June 29, 1964, nearly four months to the day after this music had been recorded.
